FAQ

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal is a gentle, safe and cost-effective way to permanently reduce unwanted facial or body hair. The wave-length, exposure, duration and energy levels are chosen to selectively damage targeted hair follicles which results in the hair follicle being unable to grow a hair or it produces a slow growing hair, light in colour and smaller in diameter.

  • Lip & Chin
  • Underarms
  • Bikini Line
  • Brazilian
  • Arms & Legs
  • Back

The best candidate for this treatment is someone who has unwanted hair on their face or body, and who wants to reduce hair growth in a particular area.

For safety reasons you may not be able to get this treatment if have/are:

  • Metal or other implants in the treatment area
  • Current or history of cancer
  • Pregnant or nursing
Any diseases that can be stimulated by light (e.g. epilepsy)
  • History of disease that can be stimulated by heat (e.g. herpes)
  • Poorly controlled endocrine disorders (e.g. diabetes or polycystic ovary syndrome)
  • Any active condition in the treatment area (e.g. eczema, psoriasis, rash)
  • History of skin disorders, keloids, unusual wound healing, or excessively dry and/or sensitive skin
  • Any surgical procedures within the past 3 months

IPL hair removal treatments work best for light to medium skin tones with a darker hair colour. We will always perform a thorough consultation to assess whether this treatment is right for you.

With your first and subsequent treatments, improvement is most noticeable a week after each session. You will have optimum results once you have completed the recommended series of treatments.

Treatment results will vary person to person, it depends on how your hair grows. Some people may see longer-lasting hair removal, while others who see sporadic hair growth in the area may need a touch-up treatment to maintain the results.

It feels like a really light snap with an elastic band against your skin as the applicator moves around the treatment areas.

It doesn’t hurt, the applicator has a built-in cooling feature to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, but you might feel a bit of discomfort if you’re treating a more sensitive area, like along the bikini line or brazilian. Settings can always be adjusted accordingly for client comfort.

While every precaution will be taken to prevent any complication, and that complications from this procedure are rare, they can and sometimes do occur. These include but are not limited to;

  • Redness and swelling
  • Pigment changes
  • Epidermal burns (rare)
  • Foliculitis (inflammation of hair follicle) (rare)

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams or makeup before your session, and stop using any products that might irritate your skin 2-3 days before. You should also avoid tanning. Depending on where you’re getting the treatment, you may be advised to shave the area on the day of your treatment. Remove all jewellery around the area being treated.
