Cosmelan Depigmentation – A guide

The Cosmelan Depigmentation programme can treat a variety of issues including pigmentation, melasma, sunspots, and post acne pigmentation.

The world’s #1 best selling depigmentation treatment, Cosmelan works to fade the appearance of existing pigmentation whilst sedating the formation of future excess production. The two-phase intensive treatment programme firstly involves the application of a highly potent de-pigmenting mask. This is applied at the salon and it is not washed off for up to 6-10 hours following application (dependent on skin type). The second treatment phase is an at-home maintenance cream that should be applied twice daily to enhance the effects of the mask. This safe and non-invasive procedure treats the source of pigment formation to deliver a rapidly clearer, brighter and more clarified complexion.

For client convenience simply book your Cosmelan procedure in the early evening to avoid disruption to daily work or social schedule. The mask is effortlessly removed the following morning ensuring no major downtime.

Who is this treatment suitable for?

Those who want to erase all types of pigmentation including melasma and chloasma, and those who want a clearer, softer and more even skin tone.

Do I need a Skin Analysis before my treatment?

Yes.  Please book a Skin Analysis with one of our Skin Specialists prior to your treatment, this will determine if this treatment is suitable for you.

How does Cosmelan work?

The Cosmelan Depigmentation method provides an intensive corrective action on the appearance of skin hyperpigmentation while preventing the appearance of future skin pigment.

Corrective Action: it removes the deposits of melanin, a pigment that gives colour to the spot in the outermost layer of the skin.

Regulating Action: it targets the source of pigmentation by reducing melanin synthesis and blocking the transfer of melanin from the deeper layers of the skin’s surface, thus keeping pigment under control.

It works in four phases:

Phase 1 – Intense Depigmentation

A single session in clinic in which the Therapist applies the Cosmelan 1 mask for an intensive depigmenting action.

You will then return home, leaving the mask on the skin for 8-12 hours.

At the time indicated by your Therapist you will remove the mask carefully with warm water until it has been completely removed.

For 24-48 hours after removal your skin will feel sensitive, tight and appear quite red.

48-72 hours after removal you will begin phase two and home care.

Phase 2 – Continuous Depigmentation

After 48-72 hours after removing the Cosmelan 1 Mask you will begin the daily application of Cosmelan 2 cream together with Melan recovery serum and Melan 130+ pigment control SPF.

Phase 3 – Regulation of Hyperpigmentation

You will continue to treat the problem of localised overproduction of pigment to prevent these spots from reappering and to even out skin tone.

In this phase, you will apply Cosmelan 2 morning and night, followed by Melan Recover Serum and Melan 130+ pigment control in the daytime.

In this phase your skin will feel renewed, imperfections will be reduced and the skin will glow.

Phase 4 – Control of Reappearance

In this phase, recurrence of the treated spots and formation of new spots is prevented. Apply Cosmelan 2 at night followed my Melan Recovery.  In the daytime applyn Melan 130+ pigment control.

In this phase you will notice that your skin has recovered its hydration levels and looks even and renewed.

How Long Does the Treatment Last?

The Cosmelan method consists of four phases which are necessary to achieve the targeted result.  The total duration for the treatment is general around 6 months.

Results

The most significant results are seen just a few weeks after applying the mask in clinic.  It improves skin texture and pigment decreases significantly.  During this period the melanin has been removed from the outermost layers of the skin and therefore we see the pigment much more faded and the skin softer and smoother.  However the job is not done yet!  We still need to continue with our homecare to re-educate the melanocytes to control their overproduction of melanin and return to their normal state and preventing pigment from reappearing.

What happens if I stop applying the home treatment?

If you do not follow the home regime you will be interrupting the treatment and therefore will not obtain the expected results.  Not apply Cosmelan 2 depigmenting cream with regulating action means the melanocyte will not be regulated and therefore continue to produce excessive melanin.  The pigment will reappear as the skin layers are renewed. Not using Melanin 130+ pigment control involves a high risk of the pigment returning as the the skin is more sensitive and receptive to aggressors during the treatment.

Can Pigmentation spots return after the end of the treatment?

After an adequate professional treatment, excess pigmentation can be removed visibly.  However, it is a dynamic process, where the imbalance forming them can cause their recurrence. Therefore, even if the spots are not seen, it is essential to apply a daily regulatory depigment treatment and photoprotection throughout the year to prevent repigmentation.
