Five Reasons We Love Mineral Makeup
22 May 2018

It’s no secret that we are big fans of mineral makeup here at Bella’s, and there are so many reasons why! From skin benefits to environmental welfare, mineral make up is suitable for all skin types and is better for your hip pocket too. So, what is mineral makeup? Often dubbed “the skincare makeup” mineral products are formulated without oil, talc, dyes, synthetic preservatives, parabens or synthetic fragrances. Mineral makeup is made from minerals such as mica, zinc and titanium oxide, which are milled into a fine consistency and combined with pigment.

At Bella’s, we use and love Jane Iredale, one of the biggest names in mineral makeup. Jane Iredale has a cult following all over the world, and for good reason too. This beautiful line of cruelty-free, skincare makeup nourishes the skin and enhances natural beauty.

We’ve put together our top five reasons why mineral makeup should be a staple in your beauty cabinet.

It’s better for your skin
Mineral makeup is ideal for sensitive or breakout prone skin types that tend to become irritated with heavier formulas. Mineral makeup won’t clog pores either, so those with blemish prone skin can rest assured that mineral foundation and powders won’t get in the way of treating acne and blackheads.

The ingredients found in mineral makeup are also ideal for skin post treatment. So, if you’ve just had a fairly intense chemical peel, dermal needling or even suffering from dermatitis or rosacea, the gentle ingredients are perfect for you. Jane Iredale even have a Post Laser kit, containing key products to help nourish, protect and conceal redness.

It’s good for the planet
While mineral makeup is not technically natural or organic, the lack of chemicals and toxic ingredients make mineral makeup a smarter choice, not only for your skin, but also for the earth. Toxic chemicals are not used in manufacturing, nor do they end up on your skin and, ultimately into our water systems when washed off. Mineral makeup is also not reliant on non-renewable sources such as petroleum. Jane Iredale is also cruelty free, meaning none of their products are tested on animals. They’re even certified by PETA!

It lasts longer
Most mineral makeup has a very good shelf life, meaning you won’t need to be replacing it as often as other types of makeup. Most other makeup brands are full of additives and fillers, giving them a shorter shelf life – meaning you need to re-purchase them more often! Mineral makeup also lasts longer on the skin, thanks to higher pigment in shadows, blush and powders, so you’re less likely to need to reapply throughout the day.

You can create a more natural look
If a heavier, more made up look is not your thing then mineral makeup is for you. The lighter formulations mean you can create a “less is more” effect, without having to use layers and layers of products. Mineral makeup generally produces a more natural look, but of course you can build up coverage to create any look you like! The Jane Iredale collection features some beautiful tones and shades for you to create the look that lets your inner beauty shine through. Check out their collection here.

It’s better quality
Mineral formulations do vary from brand to brand but one of the main ingredients to look out for is talc. This cheap and wasteful filler won’t be found in high quality mineral makeup lines, instead you will find mica. Mica has beautiful skin adhering properties and the ability to create a natural shimmery finish, since it can be milled to a fine powder. Because it is naturally produced, is safe to use on almost all skin types with little to no side effects.
